History
Katani
During the time of German East Africa up until the independence, sisal or, “Katani” in Swahili, was a primary export cash crop of Tanzania.
Smuggled up from the Yucatan, the climate in Tanzania provided the conditions to produce the fibrous plant that was turned into rope, twine and burlap.
Dolly Estate
Dolly Estate was a 4000 acre sisal plantation run by Danish farmers.
In 2001, Dolly Estate was reinvigorated as a residential area along with the re-introduction of native Wildebeest, Eland, Zebra and much more. As the African bushland re-emerged, native and visiting bird species returned as well.
